Uncovering the Embezzlement Posse: How to Spot Corrupt Government Officials
By Craig Bachman Jr.
There’s no doubt that government corruption has been a hot-button issue for many years, and has been getting worse year after year. With endless talk about the “embezzlement posse”—the band of corrupt politicians and officials who are guilty of taking money from back door deals and insider trading. How do you know when you’re dealing with one of these individuals? And how do you determin who is in the posse of corruption? What exactly makes up the embezzlement posse and how to spot corrupt government officials.
What is the Embezzlement Posse?
The embezzlement posse is comprised of those in politics and positions of power who abuse their influence for personal gain. They push certain narratives to benefit themselves rather than their constituents or country. This could be done through shady deals, bribery, or other forms of corruption. It’s not always easy to tell who is part of such a group as they often do their best to conceal their involvement in such activities. However, there are some signs that can help indicate when someone may be part of the embezzlement posse.
One recent benchmark is those who have supported Ukraine’s government despite its well-known corruption issues. It is speculated that billions of dollars have been pumped into Ukraine without proper documentation and that much of this money goes directly into the pockets of US officials rather than helping Ukraine itself. While this is only speculation at this point, it certainly warrants further investigation into those involved in any Ukraine dealings.
Another indicator is looking at an individual’s track record over time to see if there might be any patterns or discrepancies which could point towards unethical behavior. For example, Mitch McConnell seems to do less for his home state each year, leaving his people out to dry. Other officials may have had multiple financial issues arise in seemingly unrelated areas. It could be worth looking into more closely as it may point towards corruption on their part. Additionally, looking into where an official gets their funding from can provide important insight as well; if they are receiving large sums from companies or organizations with questionable ethics, then it may be worth flagging them as potentially being part of the embezzlement posse.
Government corruption remains a major issue today and identifying members of the embezzlement posse can help uncover misconduct by powerful figures in politics and business. While it’s not always easy to tell who these individuals are, keeping an eye out for any suspicious activities related to Ukraine or financial discrepancies can help expose them. Also officials who partake in insider trading could be exhibiting this embezzlement behavior. The American people need to understand who is actually looking out for them and who is not.
Our public servants don’t always remain honest and accountable for their actions. We need to hold them to a high standard and demand we are protected from becoming victims of unethical practices by those in power.
