Is the world falling apart? The short answer is YES.
It’s hard to deny that the world is in poor condition at the moment. Everywhere you look, there’s evidence that things are heading in the wrong direction. Our morals are off-kilter. We have nations and labs designing viruses, we have wars being fought, and we have an economic collapse happening right before our eyes. The list goes on. It’s enough to make anyone feel pessimistic about the future.
While several factors have contributed to our worlds chaotic state, one that stands out above the rest is our culture losing its moral and ethical roots. A society that once championed hard work, personal responsibility, and treating others with respect now seems to celebrate apathy, victimhood, and entitlement. As a result, we are witnessing an increase in crime, addiction, mental illness, and family breakdown.
One need only look at our entertainment or political landscape to see this decline in moral standards. We are bombarded with vulgarity, violence, and sexuality on a daily basis. And while there is nothing wrong with enjoying these things in moderation, they have become so pervasive that they are numbing us to their effects. We have become desensitized to the point where we no longer flinch at profanity-laced tirades or graphic images of assault. This is not healthy for any society, let alone one that is supposed to be a shining example of democracy.
The United States was founded on the principle that all men are created equal and have certain inalienable rights. But in order for these principles to endure, they must be passed down from generation to generation. Sadly, it seems as though we have lost sight.
We are also trying to wipe out large populations of the world. We have labs in the world that use many different techniques to mutate viruses and give them new powers. Scientists often use these manipulations to better understand how the microbes can evade detection by our immune systems. However, there are many other reasons why scientists might want to perform these manipulations. For example, they may want to create new strains of viruses that are more resistant to antibiotics or that are more virulent. Additionally, they may want to study how certain mutations affect the way that a virus behaves. We have seen these experiments go wrong and get out into the public.
If it isn’t man-made viruses that will end us, it will be war. We have also seen escalations in the war recently. Russia continues to raise the stakes with comments that come after Biden promised to provide Ukraine with $125 million in new military assistance, including “long-range precision land-attack missiles.” These weapons would give Ukraine the ability to strike Russian forces at a greater distance, making it more difficult for Putin to intervene militarily in the country. Putin has responded by threatening to escalate his own bombing campaign if Western nations provide Ukraine with these longer-range rockets. He also dismissed the weapons as “nothing new,” saying that they would not change the balance of power in the region. One thing is clear: Putin is not going to back down without a fight. And with both sides arming themselves for battle, the conflict in Ukraine is likely to intensify in the months ahead.
The Prices of basic food commodities have been on the rise in the past year, adding to the concerns of a global food crisis. The main factors behind this are social collapse, the shock of the war, and rising inflation. According to the Food Price Index, the cost of cereals, meat, and dairy products have increased by around 15% since last year.
At the same time, conflict and instability in major food-producing countries have disrupted agricultural production and disrupted global trade flows. And finally, inflation has been rising globally, eating into the purchasing power of consumers. All of these factors together create a perfect storm that is leaving millions of people at risk of going hungry.
However, it’s important to remember that the world has been through tough times before, and we’ve always managed to pull through in the end. So while things might seem bad at the moment, there’s no reason to believe that we won’t be able to overcome these challenges and emerge stronger on the other side.
