A hacker has stolen in-development footage of GTA 6
In the early hours of 18 September, a poster on GTAForums going by the name teapotuberhacker posted about 90 videos, totaling 50 minutes of footage from an in-development version of the new video game Grand Theft Auto 6, from Rockstar Games. The footage has since proliferated around social media and the internet. The hacker posted a message that he wanted to negotiate the return of the data. Here’s everything we know so far about the leaked footage.
The Leaked Footage
The leaked info shows various aspects of gameplay, including missions, cut scenes, in-game interactions, maps, and character creation. The footage also showed what appears to be a map for the game’s setting, which is rumored to be based on Vice City. There are also numerous references to previous games in the series, suggesting that Rockstar is looking to appeal to long-time fans with this installment.
The Reaction
Needless to say, the reaction from both fans and industry insiders has been largely negative. Many have expressed concern that the leak will spoil the surprise of the game’s release, while others are worried that it will give players an unfair advantage when the game eventually comes out. Rockstar has not yet commented on the leak, but it’s safe to assume that they are less than pleased with the situation.
It’s still unclear how the hacker obtained the footage or why they chose to post it online. However, one thing is certain: this is not the way that Rockstar Games wanted their highly anticipated new game to be revealed to the world. The hacker has since been caught. We’ll be sure to update this post as more information becomes available.
