The Hypocrisy of Kamala Harris\u2019s Immigration Policies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Christmas Day, a group of illegal immigrants was left for dead on the doorstep of Vice President Kamala Harris\u2019s home in Washington DC. While this could have been a chance for her to put her money where her mouth is and actually practice the principles she preaches, she instead chose to leave the immigrants to suffer in their time of need. This act paints an alarming picture that reveals just how serious and hypocritical her immigration policies are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Unfortunate Incident<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It is not yet known where these immigrants came from or how they reached Harris\u2019s doorstep, but what is known is that at least one of them was surely in desperate need for medical attention. Unfortunately, Harris and her staff chose not to open their doors nor provide medical aid or a warm place to stay to the group, leaving them out in the cold. It is currently unknown what happened to the group. Many speculate many of them were taken away for treatment while the others were left out in the cold. Sadly, after all was said and done, rumors a man could have died due to complications from hypothermia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A History of Hypocrisy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This incident has shone a spotlight on Harris\u2019s history with immigration policy\u2014one that many would call hypocritical. Throughout her career as US Senator and Attorney General of California, Harris has consistently spoken out against immigration policies that she deems too strict or oppressive; however, when faced with an opportunity to do something about it on a personal level rather than simply talking about it on a political level, she chose not to take action. This decision tells us a lot about how seriously she takes immigration reform and just how much influence it will have when she assumes office next month as Vice President-elect Joe Biden’s running mate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Implications for Immigration Reform<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This incident does not bode well for those who had hoped that Harris would be able to make real changes toward more inclusive immigration policies during her tenure as Vice President-elect. It seems clear now that despite her past rhetoric regarding immigrant rights and freedoms, she may be unwilling or unable to make meaningful changes when put into power\u2014leaving millions of people feeling betrayed by the very person whose job it should be to protect them most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kamala Harris\u2019s refusal to intervene during this unfortunate event speaks volumes regarding both her history with immigration reform and what we can expect from her future policies on this issue as Vice President. It appears now more than ever before that no matter how much lip service she gives towards protecting immigrants’ rights and freedoms, at its core, these reforms will remain nothing more than empty promises unless there is evidence showing otherwise going forward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
