The Uvalde shooting is just another example of pure evil in this world. We send our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and wish them peace during this difficult time. The incident has left many people heartsick with grief, sadness, anger – even fear about what happened because it seemed so random.
This type of violence isn’t shocking anymore, given how often we hear mass shooting stories. The world and the United States are not new to this occurrence, so why did it seem like the police in Uvalde police dropped the ball? Here are the facts as of today:
-The gunman was in the school for more than an hour.
-The gunman shot his grandmother in the face and left her wounded before crashing a pickup truck through security barriers outside their school.
-The police waited more than an hour to enter the classrooms where students were trapped after the shooting began.
-Police had an abundance of notice. Numerous individuals called 911, but the police, apparently believing that the gunman had barricaded himself and that “there were no kids at risk,”
-Police did block parents from trying to save their children. At the same time, some police rescued their children.
-Police did not enter to confront the shooter even 78 minutes after the gunman had walked inside.
There are more concerning details, but the common theme is that the police did not act, allowing the body count to increase.
Why in the world did this happen? In any scenario, why would you allow an active shooter to be mobile in a school around children? The border patrol was the agency that brought down the shooter. (meaning the police only contributed to providing delays) This extreme hesitation by the police makes many wonder and doubt.
Why an intensional delay?
In the following days, politicians took full advantage of the situation. This event has created an opportunity to distract from our crumbling economy, inflation, and political scandals. Politicians can now speak out against such crimes, demanding action with gun policy in the United States.
We have seen this opportune distraction before. So here is what will probably happen: Our government will pass some “SAFE Act,” and soon, there will be billions of dollars that will move to some 3rd party contractor’s hands. They will do a little something with this money, but we won’t know exactly where it goes. Many of our politicians will make even more money due to this deal.
This act will probably make things slightly harder for anyone those seeking guns or similar weapon modifications. This act will not do anything to stop someone with evil intentions. The actual end result for real American people is that Facebook or some social media application will provide us a filter or tagline that we can update our profiles with after this event and future events.
What is the real solution? Hold politicians accountable for their BS. Politicians only want to regulate guns because they need protection from their terrible decisions. They will always be protected by guns; this will never change. Guns will always be out there in the world. We need to make schools safer with security, we need better responsiveness from police, and we need a mentally healthy country. A thriving democracy needs freedom and accountability.
